Charity Foundation

Grand Emperor Hotel took part in 2008 Sedan Chair Race on 16 November and won "The Joyce Smith Founders Trophy".

Sedan Chair Race, an annual charity event with over 30 years of history, is organized by Matilda International Hospital's Sedan Chair Charities Fund. The race raised over 4.3 million dollars for 40 smaller-scale and less well-known charities last year. This year, Grand Emperor Hotel joint the race for the first time and competed with over 54 teams from different organizations. The teams did not only compete for speed, but also decorated the chairs and dressed in various costume to bring joy to spectators.

Six Romanian staff formed a team to represent Grand Emperor Hotel. They dressed in the costume of palace guards and carried a golden carriage which imitated the one at the hotel's front door. The passenger was EEG artiste Sherman Chung, who dressed like a princess. With their gorgeous costume and splendidly decorated chair, the team easily captured the attention of spectators. In the end, their team spirit and effort won them "The Joyce Smith Founders Trophy", the most wanted award which honours the team capturing the spirit of the event.
