Interactive Tutorial Classes for New Immigrant Children
2006 / 11 / 25

Charity Foundation

Under an arrangement with the Caritas Computer Workshop, part of the Caritas Jockey Club Integrated Service for Young People in Wong Tai Sin, volunteer team members of the Emperor Group, "Emperor Conveyor", visited the Bishop Ford Memorial School in Pui Man Street, Tung Tau Estate, Kowloon, on both 25 November and 2 December, 2006, and conducted tutorial classes for new immigrant children from the junior primary school.

With the assistance of the school's social worker, team members led tutorial classes for the children and provided guidance in Chinese, English and Mathematics. Supplementary exercises to reinforce their learning were given to the children based on individual progress and ability. The children showed great interest and were actively involved in the classes, whilst also being encouraged by small gifts like stickers and candies. The interactive mode of learning made studying interesting, balancing work and play.

Each interactive tutorial class lasted for two hours. At the end of each lesson, volunteers conducted a 15-minute review session to evaluate their services. As the holiday season was drawing near, volunteers also wrote Christmas cards to the children, wishing them success in their studies and happy Christmas!
